“The material of the artist lies not within himself nor in the fabrications of his imagination, but in the world around him.”
–Paul Strand

With so much going on in the world around us, we often lose touch… losing touch with what’s going on globally, within our own individual lives as time seems to spiral away, and especially with moments from history that are not in a book, online, or even tucked away in the closet somewhere… moments in time, captured on a piece of photographic paper.

Blufoto is a visual, media studio whose primary focus is to provide our clients, our friends with little pieces of history that they can utilize, treasure and hopefully take us back to enjoy, reminiscence, inspire and reconnect with those moments often lost in time.

As a result, this mission has allowed us to work with clients around the world from here in the US to Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Blufoto is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii and our photographers are available for international travel. The studio has worked on both social and commercial accounts throughout the mainland US, Europe and Asia.

Our commercial client list includes: Xinhua Finance, Harry Winston, Pacific Rim Weddings Magazine, Kahala Sportswear, Local Motion, the Contemporary Museum, the Hawaii Theater, Hawaii Skin Diver Magazine, VoiceDesign, Hanapa’a Hawaii, Bamboo Red, and Fu Tze Ltd.

Our social clients are too numerous to list, but we would like to thank all of our friends throughout the world who have allowed us the honor and pleasure of covering and collaborating with them on their very special events.

philosophy & approach

We approach each and every account, whether social or commercial, as a collaboration between us and our clients. We are just a part of the equation… through our combined vision, we’ll create and bring to life, together.

Especially on social accounts, we feel that we are there to capture moments as unobtrusively and as attentive as possible… throughout the day as they occur, unfolding similarly to a story being written through images. Much like a courtroom artist, whose job is to listen and observe… we focus on hearing, watching and capturing what’s going on around us.

Incorporating modern techniques with traditional… we strive to push the boundaries, never ordinary or standard and always looking for the new alternative to bring a fresh outlook on things.

brad uyehara

Director and principal photographer Brad Uyehara has always had a passion to create… whether it was playing with his legos for hours on end as a child, to any and all art mediums in high school and college… his love to build and create has always been a driving force in his life.

Having studied photography and graphic design at the University of Hawaii, Brad graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art… which through exploring what college life had to offer, his journey came full circle… starting as an art major, then pursuing architecture, computer science, and ultimately ending back at his “true” love.

When not behind a camera or computer, you can find Brad hanging out with his family & friends, traveling the world or cruising at the beach freediving, spearfishing or bodysurfing.

You can find Brad’s work in both local, domestic and foreign publications, websites, blogs, private collections and what means the most to him… on the shelves, desks and hanging on the walls of his clients, friends… his family.

kypo karamas

Associate photographer Kypo Karamas is a graduate of the University of Hawaii, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art. A fellow photo-program classmate of Brad’s… they started together in the program and have been shooting together for the last decade.

Specializing in traditional darkroom techniques and alternative processes, Kypo is an exceptional B+W printer besides being a talented photographer.

Growing up on the beautiful island of Kauai, Kypo is a true ocean man… who’s always in the water surfing, bodysurfing or bodyboarding when he’s not behind a camera, bartending, or checking out the next Harry Potter trailer.

You can find Kypo’s work in both private and permanent collections around Hawaii and will continue to see more of his recent works online.
